The 2019 Nissan Sentra
The 2019 Nissan Sentra is a small sedan with ample room. It also features excellent fuel economy in addition to many of its other features, all at a price that is fair. One thing that is impressive about this compact is that it is categorized as a midsize sedan by the EPA. There are plenty of options available for this sedan.
One of its most impressive features is the fuel efficiency. This car’s 4-cylinder engine can get an estimated mileage of 29 miles for every gallon in the city and up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway. It’s not only the Sentra that has grown in size over the last few years, others to do this has been the Chevy Cruze, the Honda Civic, as well as the Toyota Corolla. These have also obtained better fuel efficiency and power, so there are always options.
Now, there is another thing that needs to be considered when picking yours. This car is probably the least powerful in its class as of now. That isn’t much of a big deal if you are solely interested in fuel efficiency. However, if you will find the standard 1.8-liter engine to be lacking when you attempt to accelerate quickly to merge onto a busy highway or pass slower traffic. If this is a concern, you should give the turbo model a look.
Additions for 2019
One addition for all models, excluding the standard base S model, is Apple CarPlay, as well as Android Auto. If you want rear disc breaks, rear cross traffic alerts, a power sunroof, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and 17-inch alloy wheels, then you want the all-new SV Special Edition. With these options and the turbo option, everyone is sure to find a model that they would fall in love with.
We got to give one a good look at Port City Nissan, and it was wonderful. One of our favorite features was how much room you had once inside. The test ride was very smooth, as well. The turbo was also very sporty and fun. And above all, we thought that the price helped to make the car more attractive overall.
A Little More On Fuel Efficiency
Let’s face it, fuel efficiency is one of the most important considerations that we take when choosing a car, at least in most cases. For this 2019 Nissan, you will find a 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder engine in all of the S, SV, SR, and SL Sentra models. This engine will produce 125 ft lbs of torque and a horsepower of 124.
If you decide to go with the turbocharged model, you will instead have a 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder engine. This engine will produce 177 ft lbs of torque and up to 188 horsepower. You can find this engine in both the NISMO and SR Turbo models.
Now, the base S model of this car comes with a manual 6-speed transmission. All of the other models that employ the 1.8-liter engine utilizes a CVT or a continually variable automatic transmission. The turbo NISMO also comes with a manual 6-speed transmission. This model also offers a CVT that has been uniquely tuned, allowing for an option to use a manual shift mode.
So, what are the numbers? Well, for the S model that has a manual 6-speed transmission, it gets around 27 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. The SR, SL, and SV models that have the CVT equipped all get a little better efficiency, coming in at 29 miles per gallon in the city and up to 37 miles per gallon on the highway.
As for the SR Turbo that only has the CVT equipped, it comes in around 27 miles per gallon in the city and up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The manual 6-speed transmission NISMO gets 25 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. The CVT NISMO, on the other hand, gets 25 miles per gallon in the city, but only 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
What Comes Standard?
From Port City Nissan, you can see up to six different trim styles of this 2019 Nissan. Those are the S, SR, SV, SL, SR Turbo, and the NISMO. As was previously mentioned, the only models that offer a manual 6-speed transmission are the S and the NISMO. Every other trim model utilizes the CVT only.
The S model has the manual 6 speed transmission, air conditioning, LED accents for the lights, wheels that are 16 inches with plastic covers, driver’s seat with height adjustment, power locks and windows, telescoping and tilting steering wheel, Bluetooth capabilities, cruise control, USB connection and auxiliary audio inputs, and a 4 speaker audio system that includes a 5 inch touchscreen and rearview monitoring. If you opt for the CVT model, then automatic emergency braking is included.
What About Safety?
So we have already discussed fuel efficiency and some of what comes with this car, but we haven’t yet discussed safety. You trust your life and the lives of your loved ones with any vehicle you enter. So it’s always best to make sure that the vehicle you are using is designed such that everyone is kept safe.
The 2019 Nissan Sentra comes with front disc and rear drum anti-lock breaks. Rear drum breaks are acceptable for most economy cars, but if you can afford to upgrade those to disc breaks as well, We highly recommend it. With that in mind, if you opt for the SL, SR, SV Special Edition, or the NISMO model, then all four tires will come with disc brakes.
Each and every model is outfitted with a minimum of six airbags. These are located two in the front, one on each front side, and two full side length curtain airbags. All of the models that utilize the CVT include automatic emergency braking as a standard.
This car has received four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It received four stars in the rollover and front collision tests. It also received five stars in the side impact collision test. This car also received a score of “Good” in all of the tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They also gave it a score of “Superior” in crash avoidance.
This is an excellent choice for anyone that is interested in getting a good sedan. The fuel efficiency is excellent, the scores it received in safety testing, and the amount of room on the inside makes this one of our favorite models of the 2019 lineup.
